Indira Sivasailam Endowment Fund

The Indira Sivasailam Endowment Fund as part of the Indira Sivasailam Foundation was established to support all things close to Smt. Indira Sivasailam’s heart. Second only to family and loved-ones, Carnatic music was a constant in Smt. Indira Sivasailam’s life. Music was a prime form of self-expression to her and she was a lifelong disciple of Carnatic music.

Smt. Indira Sivasailam was a proficient singer with a deep understanding of theory and an ardent rasika with an unwaning dedication to the art-form. She was a regular at the music season, supporting artists of all regards as she considered music to be a marker of our rich cultural heritage. Actively involved in all programs during the music season at the Music Academy, Madras, she shared a wonderful rapport with many leading musicians.

Smt. Indira Sivasailam was of the strong conviction that South Indian classical musicians par excellence should be encouraged and recognized in their prime. She also firmly believed that classical musicians were responsible for propagating our rich cultural heritage and it was therefore their duty to share their knowledge and train young talent.

With these ideas of Smt. Indira Sivasailam as foundation, the first Indira Sivasailam Endowment Award was presented to Ms. Sudha Ragunathan on October 15, 2010, thus marking the first of the Indira Sivasailam Endowment Concert series that is now Music Academy's Annual Navarathri Concert.
